Speaker 1.
I just love my mobile telephone! I can call friends whenever I want to! But my phone is useful, too. I can carry it with me so I don't miss important calls. I always listen to music and play games when I'm bored. It has a calculator and a phone book. The other night, I missed the last bus home. I called my Mum on my mobile and she came to pick me up in her car. Thank goodness I have a mobile! It makes me feel safer.
Speaker2.
Mobile phones are just everywhere! I bought mine last year. They can be easily useful, but at times they are very irritating! The other day I was listening to a lecture, when somebody's mobile phone started ringing. Sometimes the reception is poor, limiting your connectivity. You can't talk underground or on planes. Some places, like theatres, have banned mobile phones, and I think that's a good thing. People use the phone while they are driving, and this can cause problems.
Speaker 3.
Until the 1800s people used letters for communication. But this way was very slow, and people couldn't contact each other in emergency situations. There was also a possibility of letters being lost. But after the invention of the telephone in 1876 by Alexander Bell, it became easier for people to communicate. Then in the 1970s, the mobile phone was invented. It brought many advantages into our lives.
Speaker 4.
I think the most important advantage of mobile phones is that they can be used without cables or electricity. Besides this, if there is an emergency situation, mobile phones can be useful. Furthermore, I can get access to the Internet by using them. These days, the world ‘s most common means of communication is SMS. Mobile phones include this system, so in this way I can communicate with someone more cheaply than by normal calling.
Speaker 5.
I’ve been using mobile phones for more than ten years and I personally can’t find any disadvantages to owning one. I can make a call I need to make from wherever I need to make it. Phone boxes are disgusting! And good luck trying to find one that works when you need one. I just let an old lady use my phone yesterday. She needed to call her daughter to pick her up and none of the phone boxes in the area were working.
Speaker 6.
I’m not sure about mobiles. Some scientists are saying they are not safe. For example, they spread electromagnetic waves. And these electromagnetic waves cause important health problems, like cancer. Additionally, they can affect the electronic systems used by equipment, like computers. I was thinking about having a mobile phone, but I’ve changed my mind now. You can always find a phone box if you are really need to make a call.

Paula from Newcastle“I couldn’t live without my mobile phone. I think I’m addicted to it in fact! Imake over twenty phone calls a day and send at least forty text messages. I just like to be in touch with all my friends. I can’t really remember what my life was like before I had my mobile. I wouldn’t give it up for all the money in the world.”
Marget from Cardiff“I have a mobile but I try not to use it too much. When I do have to use it for a long time I worry about what’s happening to my brain. Sometimes my ear gets really hot and I get a headache. I’m sure it’s not good for you to use a mobile for long periods of time. We all use them but there hasn’t been much research into the possible dangers.”
Ned from London“I think they’re really useful. It’s great to be able to call a mate and tell him you’ll be a bit late to meet him. The other day my car broke down on the motorway and it was great to be able to phone for help. I got lost on the way to a friend’s house the other day and she told me the directions as I was walking along. That was really handy.”
Josh from Dublin“I’m a teacher in a secondary schools and mobile phones really annoy me. The students send text messages to each other in the class and last month I caught two of my students cheating in an exam by sending messages to each other. In theory they are not allowed to bring them to school but it’s nearly impossible to stop them. I don’t think parents should buy them for their children. It’s crazy to see eleven year olds with their own mobiles. It must cost a fortune for their parents too.”
Simon from Plymouth“I have never had a mobile phone. I work from home, I’m a writer, so I really don’t need one. I have to phone friends on their mobiles though and my phone bill has gone up lots since everyone started using mobiles. My girlfriend keeps trying to convince me to get one, but I won’t. People think I’m a bit strange not having one but I don’t want people to be able to know where I am and what I’m doing every minute of the day. I like to be uncontactable!”
Приложение №3.
At present mobile phones have become ingrained in our everyday lives and the 1___ (MAJOR) of people can hardly imagine 2___(THEY) without cell phones. Is it just a tribute to fashion or a necessity of a modern person? It isn’t a secret that today many people feel quite 3___(HELP) if they have left their mobile phones at home. First of all cell phones give us an opportunity to keep in touch with people in any place and in any time (it’s 4____(SPECIAL) especially important for businesspeople). Besides, modern mobile phones are multi-function: they provide access to the Internet, have 5____(VARY) games, cameras, memory sticks, etc. Nevertheless we can’t deny that mobile phones provoke a range of problems. People have started to see each other less frequently. Mobile communication requires quite a lot of money and people have to control the amount of money on their accounts constantly otherwise at the most 6_____(APPROPRIATE) moment they won’t be able to phone the people they need. But the greatest disadvantage of cell phones is certainly their harmful influence on people’s health.
In my opinion at the present time mobile phones are an integral part of life of any person and we can’t stop it. I 7_____ (PERSON) need it everyday for my work and to keep in touch with my friends and relatives, though I’m aware of its deleterious influence on my health. But I try to avoid idle talks on the phone to reduce the influence of harmful radio waves. I try to find the happy mean.
